APM Introductory Certificate

2 day course: non-residential

Suitable for
Project team members who would like to understand project management terminology and who wish to obtain the Association for Project Management (APM) Introductory Certificate.

Prerequisites
As this course covers material from first principles and so no prior knowledge or experience is required.

Summary
The syllabus covers the end-to-end life cycle of projects so that delegates become familiar with typical project management processes, techniques, roles and terminology. This will allow them to take a more proactive role and make a positive contribution within any project environment, through an improved overall understanding.

Gaining the Introductory Certificate gives recognition that the delegate has achieved the APM's initial level of project management knowledge. Subsequent experience and study could take them to the next level qualification - the APMP.

Objectives
At the end of this course delegates will be able to:
  • Understand the context of the project
  • Recognize the purpose and ownership of project definition documents
  • Be aware of the characteristics of a project team and its development
  • Understand breakdown structures
  • Be aware of critical path analysis and how bar charts are derived
  • Appreciate the main element of risk analysis
  • Understand project control requirements
  • Recognize basic change management techniques
  • Appreciate the need to manage project stakeholders
  • Understand the need for post project review
  • Sit the APM exam.

Exam Structure
The Introductory Certificate exam consists of 60 multiple choice questions to be answered in 1 hour.

Study Options
The 2 day classroom option covers the complete syllabus and includes the exam, which is taken on the afternoon of the second day.

Pre-course work is required.

Members of the Association for Project Management are advised to contact us quoting their membership number at time of booking to receive reduced exam fees.
